Knysna is without a doubt one of South Africa's most popular and scenic coastal towns, and the multi-award-wining marina development of Thesen Islands is no exception. The marina consists of 19 man-made islands that are inter-connected via 21 beautifully arched bridges and surrounded by 25 ha of tidal waterways. The only link to the mainland is via a causeway and bridge.
Thesen Islands is located within walking distance of the Waterfront, Yacht Harbour and Knysna's exciting town centre. Facilities and attractions on the island itself include a park, bird hide and bird reserve, gardens and orchards, tennis and squash courts, kiddie's playground and lots more. The island boasts 3 of its own stunning beaches - Main Beach, The Cove and Heritage Bay.
Thesen Harbour Town is a commercial village located only a few minutes away from the residential area. It features a wonderful mix of restaurants, boutiques and offices and a long scenic pier which leads onto the lagoon, offering spectacular views of this area. Restaurants include Quay Four which offers a wide variety of meals as well as great entertainment, East Head Cafe is a family friendly restaurant and boasts amazing views of the area, and Ile De Pain which offers wonderful freshly baked goods. Visitors can also enjoy beer tasting at the famous Mitchell's Brewery while looking over the lagoon.
There are also shops, a spa, gym and kids playground to enjoy. Other interesting activities include the Thesen Island historical walk, whale watching and fishing.
