Dias Museum

Mossel Bay

Located in Mossel Bay at the site where European explorers first made contact with the South African indigenous people is the Bartholomew Dias Museum. The museum offers a unique and fascinating insight into the area and the history of Portuguese, Dutch and British sailors.

The current museum complex was opened in 1989 and is home to a life-size replica of the Dias Caravel, the boat used by Dias to sail to Africa. Visitors to the museum can explore the boat and all its inner workings.
