Lichtenberg Game Breeding Centre

Central Region

Lichtenberg is located between Coligny and Mafikeng and was established in 1873. It is about 240 km from Johannesburg.

The main aim of the centre is to assist and increase the National Zoo’s breeding programmes of endangered species. It is home to mostly endangered species including white rhino, pere david’s deer, cape mountain zebra, scimitar-horned oryx and arabian oryx.

Guided drives through the centre can be arranged. The hide at the Vulture Restaurant within the reserve allows for close up viewings of the magnificent birds here.
