This area is incredibly bio-diverse with the lush vegetation of the Tsitsikamma forest in the west and the golden beaches of Port Elizabeth in the east. In the north are the plains of the Karoo and in the south is one of the longest unbroken sandy coastlines in South Africa.
The coastline is known as the Sunshine Coast and offers visitors beautiful and unspoilt beaches, including St Francis, Port Elizabeth, Port Alfred, and the surfer's paradise of Jeffreys Bay.
In 1820 Dutch settlers arrived in Port Elizabeth and left their mark with many examples of their fine architecture still visible, with a number of interesting historical sites that are worth visiting. Historical tours are also on offer taking you to the major places of interest.
West of Port Elizabeth is Baviaanskloof with its breath-taking passes and wild adventure. The area is filled with rugged gorges, forest, waterfalls, cliffs, and a wide variety of plant species from fynbos to yellowwoods.
