Set in the Highlands of the Eastern Free State, Clarens is a picturesque town well known for its arts and crafts and Artist Amble and is often referred to as the 'jewel of the Free State'. Set amongst the sandstone foothills of the Rooiberg, the area offers beautiful scenery, fresh country air and sweeping mountain vistas. Many of the homes and buildings in the town are built from Clarens sandstone.

The area is also renowned for excellent trout fishing and is only 20km's from the Golden Gate National Park known for its prolific bird life and unusual sandstone formations.
