The suburb of Boksburg was created in 1887 to serve the gold mines, and was named after the State Secretary of the South African Republic, Eduard Bok. The suburb features a mixture of mines, green parks and lakes, and shopping malls.

A popular outing is to go to the Le Grange Bird Park where you can view the many different birds of this area.

For the history lovers, there a number of old buildings built at the end of the 19th century such as the Law Court, the Old Post Office, and the St Michaels and All Angels Anglican Church which was designed by the Sir Herbert Baker.
