Known for its golden beaches, rocky coves, sub-tropical forests and nearly year-round sun, the South Coast is a popular destination for both local and international visitors. The warm waters of the Indian Ocean offer good waters for swimming and surfing. Three International Blue Flag beaches can be found at Ramsgate, Marina Beach and Lucien. The South Coast is also popular with golfers with nine excellent 18-hole courses in the area.
The marine life in the area is also abundant with many great diving sites at the Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks. In winter sardines migrate up the coast in the annual sardine run bringing with them many larger fish as well as dolphins.
