Salt Rock is a holiday town on the Dolphin Coast about 47km from Durban. King Shaka used to send his handmaidens to this area to collect salt which he used to trade with the colonials; hence the name Salt Rock.

Today, Salt Rock is a little more relaxed than its neighboring towns and is known as a family destination with many safe bathing places and tidal pools. Salt Rock is also a great place to stay when exploring the nearby game reserves and battlefield sites of Zululand.
