Many of the activities in Groblersdal centre around the Loskop Dam on the Olifants River, around which the town first originated. The dam wall was built in the early 1930’s and provides an extensive irrigation scheme to the surrounding areas, sustaining crops such as cotton, nuts, sunflowers and tobacco.
The Loskop Dam Nature Reserve is home to a variety of buck species and birdlife, as well as white rhino, buffalo and leopard and visitors can enjoy scenic drives and guided walks in the reserve. The dam itself is popular amongst anglers, and other water sports and activities can also be enjoyed.
Groblersdal is found in the Cultural Heartland region of Mpumalanga – traditionally home to the Ndebele people. Visitors can experience a glimpse into the culture of the Ndebele, their brightly painted murals, beadwork and crafts at a number of cultural villages throughout the region.
