Situated on the banks of the Mooi River, Potchefstroom was the first capital of the former Transvaal Republic, and was also the first town to be established north of the Vaal River in 1838. The town still retains much of its charm from its very early years with a host of national monuments to view - but is now also a busy and vibrant town centering around agriculture and a popular university.

The Southern Region of the North West borders on the Free State and Gauteng and is popular amongst outdoor enthusiasts and anglers who are drawn to the nearby Vaal River. The landscape is covered in green and gold as fields of maize and sunflowers stretch out in all directions.
