Betty’s Bay, called so after the daughter of one of the first property developers in the area, was originally a whaling station from 1907 – 1928. Stretching along 5km of the southern cape's coastline - with both rocky and sandy stretches - this coastal town is in close proximity to its neighbouring seaside town of Pringle Bay.

There are many outdoor activities on offer in the area which falls into the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve proclaimed by the United Nations. Betty’s Bay is definitely for the holidaymaker wishing to be close to nature and to experience the great outdoors. The area is popular with many locals who have chosen to have holiday houses here away from the crowds. Surrounded by fynbos and natural vegetation the area is the perfect place to relax, and to be inspired by the beauty of the surroundings - as many artists take the time out to do.

Visitors can spend their time whale watching in season, viewing local art studios and enjoying some of the nearby wine farms. There are many lovely walks to enjoy - both on the beach and the mountainside, including those in the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens. The popular coastal town of Hermanus is a quick 30-minute drive further along the coastline.
