The fishing village of Gansbaai is located about 160km southeast of Cape Town in the Overberg region. It is from here that adrenaline junkies can experience Shark Cage Diving for an up-close and personal encounter with the Great White Shark - definitely not for the faint-hearted! Other marine activities such as angling, diving and whale watching can also be enjoyed – or simply sit back, relax and enjoy the spectacular views across the bay.
For those who wish to stay safely on land, take a walk along the coast to view some of the areas shipwrecks, including the great steam troopship HMS Birkenhead, which struck a rock off the coast and sank in 1852.
