Caring Poplar Tree
anonymous
06 May 2013
I stayed for 3 days in April at the lodge. I was really impressed with the caring nature of the owners. The answered every question and helped me out in a lot of ways. They really went that extra mile to assist me. I loved the peace and quiet. I loved sitting in front of the lodge on the lounge set in the sun. I loved it that Vivienne came over and offered me some tea. Those little things are so important.
Are you in search of tranquillity?

My friend had just completed a study course and written exams, and I had been through a hectic period. We both wanted time to recharge and just be. Even though the description of Poplar Lodge attracted us, we were unprepared for the actual reality. As I walked in, led by the very friendly owner, Vivienne, I was immediately struck by the positive energies of the establishment. The garden where we sat completing the formalities of registering captivated me totally. Where else do you book in, surrounded by towering trees and verdant lawns. The accommodation itself, a two sleeper aptly named "Valley view" was pristine in cleanliness and tidiness. I opened all the windows and the sound of birds accompanied us as we explored what was to be our home for the next few days. The 'valley view' from the window of the lounge was breathtaking. Because we were two ladies and used to sleeping alone, Vivienne very kindly made up the sleeper couch in the lounge for my friend, while I had the luxurious double bedroom for myself, along with bed lamps on both sides of the bed. Being an avid reader this is something I miss when staying anywhere. I was totally awed at the attention to detail that characterized even the smallest aspect of the facilities. I particularly liked that the chain attached to the plug of the basin in the bathroom was not wound around the tap, but had its own little niche on the tiles. Small thing? Perhaps, but it is little considerations like this that won us over. Vivienne is a warm and lovely person, and would stop to chat whenever we encountered her. Marshall is the silent type, but very helpful and kind as we were to find later during our stay. The cherry on top for me was the following morning when I went outside, and took the steps down to another garden with a small pool. I sat there as the sky lightened and felt as if I was being enveloped in the benevolence of nature. The trees seemed to embrace me and I felt an immense sense of peace and tranquillity. I have been to many places, but the feeling I experienced there in that garden was to me a gift from God. I commend Vivienne and Marshall on sharing such excellent accommodation with us, for their friendly service, and for the wonderful gift of nature we were privy to. We really felt as if we were guests on an estate, and not just passing through. We have recommended Poplar tree Lodge to friends, and I for one, look forward to a return visit, God willing.
