Description

Located in the Royal Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho within the Tsehlanyane National Park, Maliba Mountain Lodge is a 5-star mountain retreat set in a pristine sub-alpine wilderness valley deep in the heart of Lesotho's breath taking mountains. Maliba Mountain Lodge is the first 5-star lodge in Lesotho and it has set the benchmark for future Lesotho Tourism ventures. Over 5600 hectares of extremely rugged wilderness mountain terrain is protected within this park, which includes one of the very few remaining indigenous woodlands in Lesotho. Unlike most of Lesotho, the park has plenty of remnant vegetation dominated by mature Che Che trees all of which has historical significance to the Basotho people. Maliba will eventually boast the highest sub-alpine botanical garden in the world, designed by world-renowned South African botanist Elisa Pooley.

Guests are accommodated in one of six private and luxurious Basotho-style chalets. Each chalet is over 80m2 in size and is tastefully decorated with natural earthy tones. Warmth and comfort are key elements that have been incorporated into the design of the chalets. The warm design element has been expressed by under-floor heating, heated-bed blankets, heated towel rails and heated wall panels which create a comfortable living environment for guests. The highlight of the warm design element is the open fireplace in each chalet that sets the evening mood for a romantic discussion of the day's events. A sunken bath offers guests breath taking views as one relaxes and soaks up the tranquil surroundings. A king size bed and mood lighting help to create the final comfort features expected in luxury accommodation. A private viewing deck, extending from each chalet, provides guests with a completely unique way to touch the heart of the Lesotho Mountains, losing oneself in the charm of the peaceful surroundings.

Meals will be one of the many highlights during ones stay at Maliba. An open fireplace fills the restaurant with warmth and character, setting the mood for that perfect evening. All meals are expertly prepared to a high standard from fresh ingredients by the talented chef. Special requirements are catered for with prior notice. The service is professional, catering for your every need while not being obtrusive in any manner.
Meals are either served in the restaurant or on request meals can be served on the private chalet decks for intimate and memorable occasions. A fully stocked bar and wine cellar is available for guests to order whatever they decide compliments the exquisite food. Drinks are at guests own cost. The menu at Maliba is a mouth-watering experience that is always one of the talking points of ones stay. Activities at Maliba Lodge offer guests a unique opportunity to explore the beauty of the tranquil natural surroundings. Activities include hiking on one of the three nature trails that graciously wind their way through the heart of the Lesotho mountain terrain, horse riding on local Lesotho ponies, renowned for being firm underfoot even on the rugged slopes of the Lesotho mountainside, swimming in natural springs, bird watching, rock-climbing, village and cultural tours. Snow activities can be organized though the Lodge at Afri-ski.
