The rooms were excellent, likewise the staff while the dinner and breakfast was also appreciated given the lack of alternatives in town. Bearing in mind what transpired at UCT, you can also see a bust of Cecil Rhodes if need be."

"Wonderful stay "

(South Africa) Mark wayne Park

"The history, the rooms, the ambiance and the service. Don't stay anywhere else in Kimberley. We were a party of 6 we spent hours looking at the painting's, etc. The bar is a great place to have drinks. "

"Interesting historical venue"

(South Africa) Martyn Steele

"Nice stop in the rather grim town of Kimberley. Good food, polite service, clean rooms."

"Great"

(South Africa) Johannes Henckel

"The place is oozing history. Quite memorable to have a G&T in the same bar where Cecil John Rhodes planned the colonial expansion up to the North. From now on my favourite stayover place in Kimberley, so much more character in comparison to a 'normal' hotel. Good food, good service, great ambience."

"Historic and beautifully kept"

(South Africa) Ellen Solomon

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kimberley Club. It is so rich with history and we were really impressed with all the artwork that was so well preserved. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed the food at the restaurant. Remember to order the Starter Platter... oxtail spring rolls!"

"Excellent hotel!"

(South Africa) georges bucher

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kimberley Club Hotel - the staff and service were of exceptional standard, and the rooms very comfortable. Restaurant Staff were especially friendly and efficient, and thanks to the Manager, Linda for her time and friendliness. We'll be back."

"A stay for a night is a must if you find yourself in Kimberley. The hotel is so full of history and charm, with pictures of the old days and Chaps that have been part of its history. The room was huge, with two double beds and a huge bath and even bigger shower. The room was set up for only 2 people and as we were a family of 3 we rang down to reception to get more towels, glasses etc, within minutes the lovely friendly housekeeper arrived with all our requests. Whilst we had a room over looking the road, it didnÕt keep us awake.

A nice gin and tonic was poured in the Members Bar, there is a smoking and non smoking area, although at the time of our visit we were the only people in the bar. You can sit back in the large leather seats and think about some of the conversations that have taken place here.

We chose to have a meal here. The food and service was amazing and very good in price. We congratulated the Chef who came out to see us. Breakfast was fine.

Parking is free across the road.

Would highly recommend and would use again if I found myself in the area."

The service and facilities have utilised the best elements of past eras and added all the modern essentials to make your stay enjoyable. The room was very large when judged against modern standards but offered the unique blend of antique furniture and modern bathroom and cooling. We enjoyed our stay tremendously and would like to congratulate the friendly and efficient service provided by all the staff."

"After a random selection of accommodation in Kimberley I came across the Kimberley Club. Our one day / night trip to Kimberley was to immerse ourselves in the history of the area and what better way than to stay in the same building that Diamond visionaries such as Cecil John Rhodes, Barney Barnato and Dr Leander Star Jameson actually stayed and built their empires in. If only the walls could talk!!!

The entire stay from the car park to the foyer excites the mind and the walls and rooms are filled to capacity in period furniture all used by and / or donated by the history makers of the city.

The rooms are equally styled and each has it own personality with comfortable beds and crisp linen to add to your luxurious stay. The restaurant is good. A wonderful one night stay in history with walking distance to the Big Hole. I will certainly return our thanks for a great stay. "

"A very pleasant stay with very pleasant people who all seemed anxious to do whatever it took to make our stay enjoyable. The whole staff were very pleasant. The food was excellent: The tableware was outstanding and the service at meals efficient.
One nasty shock awaited us; on arrival we asked about Christmas lunch only to be told that the dining room was full. The prospect of my wife and I sitting alone in our room perhaps eating a biscuit while everyone else was eating a beautiful meal was not pleasant. My feeling is that if people are booked to stay over the festive season it is up to the hotel to offer what they have to people who will be resident. Happily the ever-pleasant staff found room for us and included us in what was a quite outstanding buffet lunch.
All in all a lovely place to stay; full of history; beautiful antique furniture; paintings and photographs of an era long ago."

Will go again."

"My wife and I stayed here for one night in early January 2010. The club/hotel is very well appointed, and rich in history. Our room was very nicely done and comfortable, with a shared terrace (lightly partitioned with a metal-railing from other rooms). The bathroom was clean with a decent shower, and the bed and pillows comfortable, with good-quality linen.

We arrived in late afternoon and had tea on the terrace. There was no menu, but we just asked for tea and coffee, and some biscuits (which were delicious).

We ate dinner at the club too, in the rather empty but lovely dining room. My wife had a reasonable fish dish (I wouldn't expect excellent fish at a place like that), and I had excellent lamb chops. We shared a salad. The waiter was very friendly and pleasant.

Breakfast was very good, and afterwards our waiter gave us a tour of the club, which was terrific.
There were a few minor details which let the place down (e.g. plastic plants on the terrace), and it is not in the nicest part of town, but I would definitely recommend it as a good place to stay in Kimberley."

Very comfortable rooms decorated in period style combined with good service and excellent meals make this establishment a treat. Don't be put off by the CBD where it is located as the real charm begins at the front door. Staff were friendly and helpful and the club rooms (available to all guests as temporary members) include a wonderful dining room, bar and billiards room, all once used by the likes of Barnarto and Rhodes."

The service and breakfast was good. For dinner we chose another restaurant in Kimberley, because the restaurant at The Kimberley Club seemed to us a little too antique and dark.

In summary, we will give this address to all our friends which are looking for a good place to stay in Kimberley."

"This was the most amazing place - like a very traditional gentleman’s club in London which of course is how it was when it opened over 150 years ago.
Our room was really beautiful and extremely comfortable in an old fashioned yet strangely modern way - beautiful antique furnishings with sympathetically modern soft furnishings.
The food was really good but what made it very special was the fabulous service and very personal touch from all the staff and the chef who pops out frequently to check on how you are and if you like the food and so on.
Most of all I think we just enjoyed the surroundings soaked as it is in history. It was wonderful to view the paintings and photographs which cover all the walls and transport you back in time.
If you are visiting Kimberley this is the ONLY place to stay. I'd like to go back again one day......

"The Kimberley Club provides guests with the opportunity to absorb the history and ambiance of a bygone era. Situated centrally in Kimberley just outside the CBD it is close to all of the local attractions. We spent two nights at the establishment and found the service to be friendly and efficient. The rooms were well appointed with the decor in line with the history of the building. Our room did not have a patio nor any view, but there was a communal courtyard that one could sit in. The upstairs rooms have a verandah and a view over the street and these might be a better option.

The members bar / lounge to which guests have access, provides the perfect setting to have a sundowner and reflect on the day's business or activities. Smoking is permitted in the bar which might not agree with all. Dinner in the magnificent dining room was accompanied by efficient service and you have the option of ordering from the bar/lounge while having a pre-dinner cocktail. The menu is short but sufficient. Breakfasts offer the usual array of continental or cooked breakfasts. Secure parking is available across the street from the club.
