They are unpretentious yet very comfortable, clean, and well equipped for a self-catering stay. The star ratings we give it are based on its isolation far away from the 'Madding Crowd' in stunning mountain scenery. IN other words, we go there to get away from frenetic city life."

"Traveller'sRest"

Some of the furniture looked a bit tired and worn and could probably do with a bit of upgrading.

All in all a place we would recommend."

"Ou plekkie kort aandag maar baie mooi gelee!"

(South Africa) Kobus Meij

"Ons het baie lekker gebly hier. Dit is gele‘ in 'n pragtige kloof - weg van enige paaie en so stil en rustig. Net jammer dat die badkamers nie baie skoon was nie. Die meubels en beddens is oud maar pas in by die ou atmosfeer. Die handoeke was al bietjie opgebruik! Met nuwe handoeke, 'n verfkwas hier..."

"We stayed in a comfortable 2 bedroom unit which featured a fire place in the lounge. The kitchenette is fully-equipped and the beds are comfortable. Benefits include:- a beautiful setting with places to go for walks or a view to sit and look at while you sit on the stoep and chill,- it is quiet and the units are nicely spread out for peace and privacy.- There is a restaurant and farm stall just up the road on the same property so you don't have to self-cater unless you want to.A word of advice if you are using a GPS to find the place: my GPS took me to the farm house which is not where the cottages are. Reception/check-in is at the Farm Stall & Restaurant which is on the other site of the road a couple of hundred metres towards Clanwilliam.Very hospitable people, and I thought reasonable price for two people: I will stay there again any time."

"The cottage was very rustic"

(South Africa) Anonymous

"- but comfortable and clean. The surroundings are beautiful, you really feel very far away from the rest of the world. We went on the Sevilla Rock Art trail which was fascinating, and afterwards we spent the afternoon cooling off in rock pools, which was extremely peaceful."

My only negative comment is that the name of the place is wrong: it creates the perception that it is only suitable for a passover on your way somewhere, but the place is worth a visit as a destination in its own right. We surely did not want to leave the next morning."

"Pleasant stay"

"If you need to get out of the frenetic city and see the real night sky, self cater and relax with no TV or cell phone reception, the farm valley around Travellers' Rest is our favourite. The cottages are solidly built, simple but adequately furnished, and have all the necessary utensils and appliances for self catering. They are electrified, and have hot water. Solitude and peace are guaranteed. Take your own food and liquids, books and puzzles, and good walking shoes and you are set to have a wonderful retreat. We have been to the various cottages over the years, and always enjoy staying there, even in winter because the indoor fireplaces are wonderful. This time we stayed in Loes Cottage. The Pakhuis Pass is now tarred making the journey in much easier, but there are other gravel roads in the area that lend that sense of bush waking adventure 2 and 1/2 hours from Cape Town."

"Coming from a overpopulated country we are overwhelmed by the vastness of this land. After a long drive in our Prado through the Cederberge via 4x4 routes, we could not think of a better place to stay than Travellers Rest.
We stayed in a simple but charming cottage, which suits perfectly in the surrounding, being built in the same reddish stone as the mountains around.
Sitting next to the fire, watching the sky with its millions of stars, not hearing any sound of traffic, trains or people. we feel very privileged to experience this oasis .
Talking about rating, I would give this place million stars!!!!!"
