4 Great Spring Festivals in the Western Cape

As spring approaches and brings with it warmer weather and longer days there are so many reasons to get up and out and having fun. Plan and book a weekend away (now!) and really make the most of Spring with some of these great festivals taking place in September and October!

Darling Wild Flower Show

This year celebrating its 99th year, the weekend of Friday 16 to Sunday 18 September celebrates everything Spring and everything floral in the iconic West Coast town of Darling. Over 100 stalls will offer something for everyone with the main attraction being the wildflowers which burst into flower in this region in spring each year. Tickets cost just R50p/p for adults and R30p/p for children. Kids under 13 years enter for free, and on Friday, pensioners enter for R30p/p. Hermanus Whale Festival

Everyone knows Hermanus is all about the whales – this Overberg gem is renowned for offering some of the best land-based whale watching in the world. On the weekend of Friday 30 September –Sunday 02 October Hermanus will be celebrating their 25th year of the Whale Festival. The line-up includes live entertainment from 30 local artists, plenty of great food, fantastic wines, loads of kids and family orientated entertainment in various marquees and hopefully, plenty of whales! Franschhoek Uncorked Festival

What better way to celebrate Heritage Day on 24 September than with a fun-filled weekend of delicious food cooked over open flames, paired with fabulous Franschhoek wines selected by the winemakers themselves. Protea Party

A fabulous party in a fabulous setting! Why not rustle up a group of friends and head out to the beautiful Franschhoek valley for this annual winelands celebration at the Anthonij Rupert Estate?
