A Little Piece of Greece at Club Mykonos

Last updated: Jun 08, 2015

Stephanie recently went away to Langebaan to enjoy a stay at MyCascades at Club Mykonos and had a wonderful family weekend at the lagoon. Make sure to book a weekend away at Langebaan.

This little piece of Greece can be found along the beautiful West Coast, and is a mere 80 minute drive away from Cape Town. Along the drive to this resort you'll come across many farm stalls, picnic spots and tons of interesting shops, wine farms and restaurants.

Once we reached our destination, we made our way to the easily accessible reception area to check-in to the two bedroom Kaliva we had booked for the weekend. Upon arrival we were treated with complimentary refreshments and greeted with welcoming smiles. All the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and professional and the check-in process was quick, easy and efficient - a complete breeze.

After the check-in process we were shown to our unit, a porter was ready and waiting to assist us with all of our luggage. We then unpacked and took some time to settle in and take in the breath-taking views from our sea-facing balcony.

The two-bedroomed unit was super clean and very well maintained. The kitchen, lounge and dining area is open plan and leads on to the spacious balcony which has a lovely built-in braai, which we made good use of. A double bed sleeper couch in the living area can fold out and be used for two children if need be. There is also a flat screen TV with selected DStv channels.

After a delicious South African braai for supper we settled in for an early night in on the couch and enjoyed watching a few movies.

We were up bright and early the next day, refreshed and full of excitement as we were ready to do lots of exploring. After a light breakfast we took a slow stroll down to the nearby Marina which was already packed with tourists. We passed a delightful mini-golf course along the way which we would enjoy later that day. The Marina is filled with shops, a craft market and an array of restaurants including the Dockside Cafe, Little Venice Restaurant and the Bouzouki Restaurant, a chapel, as well as the Club Onos Club House for kids. For those looking to go out on the lagoon, boat rides are also offered from the Marina.

The resort boasts a fabulous casino as well as a game centre to keep the kids occupied. Other attractions within the resort include outdoor pools, a heated indoor pool, gymnasium, steam room, sauna, plunge baths, Jacuzzis and a state of the art spa.

You can also have some fun on the tennis courts, Astroturf, table tennis area and squash courts. There are tons of organised activities too, such as magic shows and family bingo.

There are a number of other activities and attractions located near to the resort which include a golf course, horse riding, paintball, quad biking, archery, the West Coast Fossil Park, West Coast National Park and lots more.

After diving into a yummy seafood platter at Dockside Cafe we took a stroll alongside the Marina and followed a path to the old Greek style windmill, which we had seen from a distance, perched up on a hill. While walking we came across a dassie (a small sociable mammal that is considered to be the closest living relative of the largest land mammal, the African elephant.) We also came across Chester - the cutest donkey who trots around with kids from the resort on his back.

After seeing the windmill we made our way back to our room, on the way we played a quick game of mini-golf and watched a friendly kids soccer match on the Astroturf - this was the most entertaining soccer match I've ever had the pleasure of watching, the kids were very passionate about the game and were only aged between 5 and 10 years old.

We reached our room, had a light snack then decided that a swim was in order. We opted for the heated indoor pool as although the weather was warm and sunny the outdoor pool was just a tad bit too cold for us. After thoroughly enjoying ourselves in the pool we once again made our way back to our unit and freshened up so that we could prepare supper.

After supper, sundowners and a few slots at the vibrant casino we called it a night. The next morning we arose bright and early and decided to head on over to the tennis courts, after about an hour of fun there we needed to start packing as we would soon need to check-out. We sadly packed up our belongings and made our way down to the reception area. I reluctantly handed over the keys and within a matter of minutes the check-out process was complete and we were ready to head home after a very enjoyable weekend.

But first we toured around town and stopped off for some breakfast and browsed a few of the local Sunday morning markets. On the drive home we stopped alongside the road at one of the many picnic spots and enjoyed some goodies that I had managed to prepare that morning before leaving the resort.

All in all the weekend was magical, a wonderful piece of Greece! I will without a doubt be returning to the resort in the near future for another fun-filled holiday. The service, accommodation and range of activities and attractions are truly exceptional and really surpassed all my expectations.
