Barton Villas in Botriver

Last updated: Oct 04, 2016

Stephanie recently stayed at Barton Villas in Botrivier. She had a great stay with her family, relaxing amongst the orchards and vineyards.

Located at the foot of the breath-taking Hottentot Hollands Mountain Range, The Barton Villas offers guests a luxurious country escape. Only an hour out of Cape Town, these self-catering Tuscan Style Villas offer unique views of the magnificent area, the Botriver valley and the Kogelberg National Eco Park. Situated on a working vineyard, the villas are also surrounded by plum orchards, olive groves and lavender fields. Barton Vineyards produces a range of great wines, olive oil, essential oil products and honey.

My family and I had the absolute pleasure of spending the weekend in the Heron Villa - an 8-sleeper villa with 4 en-suite bedrooms. It boasts an open plan living area with an indoor fireplace and has spacious living rooms equipped with DSTV. The kitchen is fully-equipped (with dishwasher and laundry facilities), and there is plenty to keep everyone happy and entertained with the large indoor entertainment area with pool table, table tennis and darts. In addition, each villa also has its own pool and unique Jacuzzi - which has actually been built into the rocks! Wi-Fi is available.

There is a private tennis court for guest to use, which is also the starting point for a fabulous hike for the whole family. Other activities to enjoy both on the property and in nearby areas include wine tasting, bird watching, whale watching, diving, golf and lots more.

On arrival at Barton Villas we were warmly welcomed at reception and directed to our home for the weekend. The short drive up to the villa is beautiful and we even came across a few horses, Blue Crane and Guinea Fowl on the way.

We reached the villa, unpacked and settled in. After preparing a delicious, light supper we made our way to the lounge and relaxed with a few board games and a movie (nowadays this tends to be something along the lines of Frozen or Tinkerbell thanks to my little one.)

After an amazing nights rest on the super comfortable bed we awoke (really) bright and early (again, thanks to my little one of course.)

We whipped up a quick brekkie and then took a lovely stroll outside to do a bit of exploring. This truly is such a peaceful area with the most spectacular views imaginable.

At this point the wind picked up a bit and we headed back inside for some warmth. Luckily the villa has its own indoor fireplace, which we put to really good use. As usual everyone else was lounging around, while Mom (me) was back in the kitchen preparing some goodies for lunch. The wind and clouds kept rolling in, so we spent most of the day indoors happily curled up in front of the fire and enjoying some family time.

The next morning we awoke at sunrise and what a beautiful, clear sunrise it was. Not a cloud in sight. After a hearty, full-house English breakfast we took an early morning walk before packing up our belongings as we would soon be heading back to the city.

On our way home we passed the usual pretty roadside farm stalls and decided to stop off at one for a milkshake and to give our legs a quick stretch. We popped in at The Orchard near Grabouw which has a lovely coffee shop and a great playground with its very own jumping castle.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Heron Villa and have really grown to love the beautiful Botriver area.

If you are looking for a relaxing country weekend away with your family or friends then Barton Villas and Vineyards is the perfect getaway for you.

** There are a variety of villas to choose from sleeping between two and eight guests. The villas are self-catering, but essentials can be provided for upon arrival on request, and a cleaning service can also be arranged on request.
