Fruit Picking in the Cape

There's nothing quite like picking your own fruit before going home and enjoying the 'fruit of your labour'. Why not spend a relaxing day under the summer sun in the picking fields with family and friends? November is the perfect month for picking cherries and strawberries - both are soon coming into season. And, whichever your choice, you can look forward to some great summery desserts.

Strawberries

Don't miss out this year as Mooiberg Farm once again invites visitors to come and handpick strawberries. On arrival you can pick up a basket and start on the picking field which is bordered by scarecrows. Once you're finished, your basket is weighed and you are charged per kilogram. You can also explore the Mooiberg farm stall where you can buy a variety of local wines and fruit.

Mooiberg is located on the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. The surrounding area is incredibly beautiful with vineyards and mountains making for the perfect backdrop.

Cherries

Go and handpick your own cherries straight from the trees at the Klondyke Cherry Farm in Ceres, eating as you go. Afterwards, linger a while and enjoy a braai beneath the pine trees.

The farm is open for picking 7 days a week from 8:30 to 16:30 from mid-November until the New Year (except Christmas Day). Entry costs R15 which is really not much when you think about it, and it's R45 per kilogram for the cherries you've picked and want to take home.
