Country Charm at Arumvale

Last updated: Oct 04, 2016

On our trip we stayed at Arumvale and loved it. Go to their listing to make a booking for a wonderful weekend in Swellendam.

On a rainy June weekend we headed out to Swellendam to enjoy some time reading, relaxing in front of the fire, drinking wine, and enjoying fresh country air. Myself and two of my good friends were going away for a bit of a lad's weekend. Except we're all fairly nerdy and introverted, so a lad's weekend for us involves significantly more books and board games than I imagine other lad's weekends do.

We were staying at a place called Arumvale in Swellendam which is situated a few minutes outside of town central on a beautiful farm. Thanks to Cape Town traffic we arrived after dark. On arrival we were welcomed and shown to the Anneline Cottage which would be our home for the weekend. Our host had provided us with firewood and so we decided to get a braai on the go and open some wine. Once the food was cooked through we went inside made a fire in the hearth and had a relaxing evening in.

The next morning we awoke to see the magnificent view we had. Arumvale is set amongst this beautiful farmland with a cloud-topped mountain rising in the distance. It was wonderfully idyllic.

The Wacky Wine Weekend was happening in the nearby Robertson and so we went through for a visit. The festival was in full swing with a real buzz around the town. We got our passes and headed through to visit a few of the wine farms. The trick with Wacky Wine, at least for us, was finding the quieter farms were you could have a chat with the wine producers and learn more about each farm. Some of our favourite farms included Bon Courage and Viljoensdrift.

After going to a few of the farms and enjoying some really good quality wine we decided to head back to Swellendam to watch the rugby. We found a pokey pub and enjoyed meeting some of the Swellendam locals.

Once the Spingboks had won, we headed back to Arumvale to enjoy another braai on our patio and a relaxing evening in.

Arumvale is a wonderful self-catering establishment with an idyllic country charm and welcoming atmosphere. You're almost forced to relax in this quiet and unassuming part of the country. There's no rush, just relax and enjoy the good life.
