Family Holiday in Hermanus

Last updated: Oct 06, 2016

Stephanie recently stayed at The Ocean Villa in Hermanus. She had a lovely time relaxing in this fun seaside town.

After a rather long process of packing our bags (packing with and for a 2.5 year old is no easy task), we were on the road to paradise - The Ocean Villa in Hermanus.

We arrived in this beautiful sea-side town just after lunch and were warmly greeted by Chris, house manager to the stunning villa which is located just a stone's throw from the beach. Chris showed us around the villa and gave us the 'inside-scoop' on all that this beautiful part of the world has to offer.

A short stroll down to (and along) the beach gave us a chance to take in some of the natural beauty of this lovely part of the Overberg region. Exercise done, we headed back to the villa to settle in for the evening, starting with dinner, which we enjoyed upstairs in the large open-plan entertainment area.

This lavish Mediterranean villa boasts an upper deck with an open plan kitchen-lounge-balcony and offers breathtaking views of the ocean and the main beach which is directly out front.

The Ocean Villa has 4 bedrooms, two superior and two standard (sleeping 8 guests). The two superior rooms each have an en-suite bathroom with one opening onto the garden and the other onto a private balcony. The two additional bedrooms share a bathroom.

The downstairs area of the villa is also home to a spacious kitchenette and laundry, and a TV lounge which leads onto a covered garden patio with lounge and al fresco dining table - the perfect spot for a light meal with the family or for some sundowners in the evening.

After a peaceful night's rest we prepared breakfast and then headed off into town to do some exploring. There is plenty to see and do in and around Hermanus - from whale watching to a world class wine route and plenty of really good restaurants.

After a light lunch and some amazing sight-seeing we made our way back to the villa. The large green lawn was the perfect spot for my daughter to spend the afternoon. She also loved the awesome half-pipe and used this as a slide during our stay.

After the fun and games outside we headed indoors to clean ourselves up and get started on supper - which was really effortless in the superbly well-equipped kitchen. Appetites fed, we retired to the lounge area which was nice and toasty due to the large blazing fireplace. We settled in on the comfy couches to enjoy some TV time and a relaxing evening.

We awoke on Sunday, once again feeling completely refreshed.

We quickly prepared some delicious flapjacks before heading down to the rocks to cast a few lines before we needed to head home.

After losing one too many sinkers we took a leisurely stroll back to the villa to pack up our belongings.

Our thoughts at the end of the weekend were that this little piece of paradise is a true gem - perfect for a seaside holiday with friends or family.

Before we left, Chris took a moment to fill us in on the nearby Protea 29, another family-friendly holiday home situated in the Hermanus suburb of Onrus River. It's a mere 200 meters from one of the most popular beaches in Hermanus.

The house has five comfortable en-suite bedrooms. There are two lounges downstairs, one opening onto the shaded outside braai area, and upstairs there is a very spacious lounge, a kitchenette, and a balcony with a dining room table and a view of the Atlantic Ocean.

Sounds heavenly doesn't it!
