Stephanie and her family recently stayed at The Villa @ The Conservatory in Franschhoek for two nights. The weekend was nothing short of amazing.
The Villa is beautifully designed and so well equipped. The grounds are spacious and perfectly maintained and the views were just breath-taking. It is nestled in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley and set between vineyards and a quaint stream.
On arrival we were warmly greeted by Susan, the lovely manageress, who so kindly prepared the indoor fire for us so that the villa would be warm and toasty when we arrived on that cold and rainy Friday evening.
We quickly settled in and explored the interior of the house, the outdoor tour would have to wait until the following day due to the rain. Every inch of the villa is pure perfection. It boasts a spacious open-plan kitchen that any foodie would dream of, which flows into the well-positioned dining area and very comfortable living room. The kitchen also opens up onto the spacious terrace with built-in pizza oven which we made sure to put into good use during our stay.
The master suite is fit for a King. The spacious bathroom has a spa bath and large shower, and the suite boasts "His and Hers" dressing rooms as well as it's very own gas fireplace, which really came in handy.
All rooms have large luxurious beds, en-suite bathrooms and air-conditioning. The living area has a large fireplace which really warms the entire house beautifully and definitely emits a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere.
After exploring and unpacking we started with dinner, simple and easy home-made burgers which were very yummy indeed. We then relaxed in front of the TV for the rest of the evening before heading off to bed.
Bright and early the next morning we prepared a lovely farmhouse style breakfast, which we were able to enjoy out on the terrace as the rain had stopped and the sun was shining brightly over us.
We freshened up and did a bit of exploring outside and quickly noticed our neighbours were in fact... a herd of cows. My daughter (18 months old) was beside herself and looked at me wide-eyed in amazement as she had never heard or seen cows before.
We also noticed a soft-flowing stream, with a trail alongside it passing down the side of the house. The villa is also surrounded by beautiful vines with amazing mountains as their backdrop.
The Villa has a covered outdoor fireplace with a lovely seating area which overlooks the crystal blue, sparkling pool. (Which I am sure is amazing during the summer months.)
For lunch we enjoyed our very own wood-fired pizza. We went out to buy a variety of toppings and the ingredients we would need to make the dough. (Recipes and instructions on how to properly use the pizza oven were thankfully supplied by Susan.)
I must say that as this was our very first attempt at making our own pizza - it was a great success, we gobbled down every last piece.
By the time we had finished lunch, a very important match was due to begin: The Bokke against our ultimate rivals - The All Blacks (quite a disappointing game, but that's a whole other story for another day).
After some light snacks for supper and a few drinks we were ready for bed.
On Sunday morning we awoke refreshed and again whipped up a delicious breakfast to start off our day. Thereafter we started packing- up, which turned out to be quite a time consuming task as my 18 month old really loves unpacking everything.
Susan returned to the Villa to see us off and we thanked her for having us over and for her truly wonderful hospitality.
We started the journey home, but stopped off at The Giraffe House along the way. This too was an amazing experience for both myself and my daughter who thoroughly enjoyed feeding the goats and seeing Gerry the Giraffe.
