Stephanie and her family recently enjoyed a very relaxing night at Cedar Cottage in Paarl.
Situated in the breath-taking Cape Winelands and only a 50 minute drive from Cape Town, this area offers an enchanting country feel. Paarl is also said to be one of the oldest towns in South Africa and is home to a range of attractions, museums, galleries and restaurants.
Cedar Cottage is based on the lovely Cedar Farm surrounded by beautiful vineyards and mountains. There are actually two cottages here. Cottage 1 can accommodate up to 4 people with one cosy king-size bedroom and a neat bunk bed in the living area. The kitchen is fully equipped for a self-catering stay. The cottage also boasts a convenient indoor braai area which we, of course, made great use of. Cottage 2 is a little smaller and can accommodate 2 people. It has a lovely open-plan layout and is also equipped for self-catering.
We arrived at the farm late on Saturday afternoon and settled in quickly and effortlessly. We took a leisurely stroll around the cottage and made a few friends along the way: the farm is home to 3 super friendly dogs, some roosters and the cutest sheep – a huge hit with my toddler! We walked through the vineyards to snap a few pics before heading back to the cottage to get started on supper which was a delicious braai with salads – perfect for Saturday night country-living.
After our meal we spent some time in the lounge area watching what turned out to be a very disappointing rugby game! We were then off to bed.
We awoke bright and early to the wonderful sound of a rooster crowing. Dressed snug and warm we headed out onto the farm to do some exploring. This area is spectacularly beautiful, even more so in the morning light!
I whipped up a quick brekkie which we enjoyed out on the stoep in the morning sun, dogs at our feet hoping to get a taste too. We finished up and hesitantly started packing the car. Before heading home we popped into the well-known Fairview and Spice Route to do some exploring and chocolate tasting - no better way to spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon.
Cedar Cottage Paarl is a true gem hidden in the heart of Paarl – we will definitely be back again soon!
