Claire and her family recently had the pleasure of staying at Marine Square Luxury Holiday Suites in Hermanus.
We were so very impressed with our recent stay at Marine Square Luxury Holiday Suites in Hermanus. It’s always a great feeling when your expectations are exceeded – and in this case they definitely were. Not only are the apartments in a fantastic location, they are also incredibly spacious and have a pretty outlook in a nice part of town within a few minutes’ walk of the cliff paths, restaurants and shops. Although we only stayed for a weekend – we could have happily stayed for a week and not felt at all cramped.
We were met at reception by the charming Michael who directed us to our underground parking bays (bonus!) before showing us around our apartment. The apartments are all located on the second floor with direct lift access from the basement parking garage. As a family of four we were accommodated in a 2-bedroom apartment (there are also 1- and 3-bedroom options) and as we were shown through our front door we were immediately struck by the space, and the bright and airy rooms – with sun streaming through loads of big windows. The apartments are beautifully decorated with modern artwork, big comfy couches, luxurious linen and upmarket appliances and kitchenware.
Our apartment had an open plan kitchen, dining room and living area opening onto an undercover balcony complete with outdoor furniture and gas braai (BBQ). Behind the kitchen area a separate scullery with dishwasher was a real bonus. Our girls happily claimed the downstairs twin bedroom (it had a TV!) with en-suite bathroom and we headed upstairs to the beautiful master bedroom and bathroom – both simply enormous. A second mini balcony tucked away off the main bedroom was the perfect spot for soaking up some sun.
We are frequent visitors to Hermanus in the summer months and for those holidays it’s usually all about the beach and being as close to the beaches as possible. This was the first time we had stayed right in the centre of town and there were so many perks! Basically, apart for driving to the beach for an afternoon walk and swim (we were exceptionally lucky with the ‘winter’ weather) – we didn’t need to use our car at all during our stay. We were able to walk everywhere, which to me has such a lovely holiday feel.
So, some weekend highlights
• A 1-minute walk to Woolworths to get our morning coffee.
• A 2-minute walk to Col’cacchio to pick up take-away pizza (they even offered to bring it to us!)
• A couple of minutes walk to the cliff paths for morning runs, evening walks, whale watching and exploring the tidal pools.
• A new discovery (for us!) the Belgian Waffle House where we had the most delicious waffles for breakfast – also just a couple of minutes’ walk from the apartment.
• The lovely second hand book shop just over the road where I bought a stash of holiday reading.
• Spending the evening lying on the super comfy couches reading and watching soccer.
As a bonus the apartments are serviced daily so you can head out in the morning and come back to a clean kitchen and all the beds made – definitely great when you are on holiday. At the same time you get loads more space and privacy than you would in a regular hotel room – plus the option of preparing your own meals – even having a braai on the balcony - really great for a longer stay. There are only 10 apartments in the building, so you won’t be surrounded by hundreds of people, and the security is excellent with no access to the building and parking garage for non-residents after hours. All great reasons to choose Marine Square next time you are in Hermanus.
We loved every minute of our stay and can highly recommend it … we will definitely be back!
