A Relaxing Weekend in Pringle Bay

Last updated: Oct 04, 2016

Stephanie recently enjoyed a truly relaxing weekend at The Mermaid's Tail in Pringle Bay with her family.

Conveniently located only a short drive from Cape Town you will find the peaceful seaside retreat of Pringle Bay. We arrived at our destination late on Friday afternoon and were eagerly welcomed by Lamson to The Mermaid's Tail - our beautiful home for the weekend. Lamson happily showed us to our rooms and gave us a lovely tour of the house.

This Cape-Cod style beach house has 3 well-appointed bedrooms, large living area with wood-burning heater, and a spacious open-plan kitchen and dining area.

It also boasts a lovely swimming pool which I am sure is just perfect in the hotter summer months.

We unpacked, settled in and lazily relaxed in the lounge area and sun room for a while for some much needed down-time. A little later we started on dinner - pizza! It is always great fun to make, especially when working in a kitchen that has been so well-equipped. (My 2.5 year old would agree.)

We enjoyed our delicious pizza in comfort out on the covered deck as we watched the sun setting. The views out here are nothing short of spectacular. I have always loved the amazing natural beauty of the Overberg region and all of the magical little towns it is home to.

We tucked in early for the night in the huge and superbly comfortable king size bed with feather-down duvet. Falling asleep all we could hear was the mesmerising sound of the waves crashing on the rocks at the nearby beachfront.

The following morning we awoke energised and relaxed and started on a Full-English breakfast as is the usual tradition. Appetites filled we decided to take a leisurely stroll around Mermaid's Tail. Just a stone's throw away we found a quaint "mini market" filled with the most interesting little craft shops and a delightful country farm stall. We of course purchased a few sweet goodies to enjoy a little later that day, including freshly-baked melktert, my favourite!

We retired to the lounge area once again and enjoyed a few fun board games thoughtfully provided by the owners of The Mermaid's Tail - Paul and Jenny. The living area here is very spacious and homely with lots of attention to detail. It really does make you feel instantly welcome. After the fun and games we settled down to a bit of reading - there is a large selection of books on offer, and the warm sun room is the perfect reading spot.

By now it was time to get supper sorted - a delicious braai with salads and ciabatta garlic loaf. After the braai was done, the chilly winter air was proving to be a little too much for us so we headed inside and got the indoor heater going. Within minutes the entire room was incredibly warm and cosy. I also quickly switched on the panel heaters in the bedrooms so that it would be nice and toasty by the time we head off to bed...but first a movie or two.

We awoke again feeling rested and so relaxed. We enjoyed a quick breakfast and got to packing up our goodies, before starting the short journey home, back to reality.

It was an absolute pleasure visiting The Mermaid's Tail in this picturesque piece of heaven in the Western Cape. It's a simply great family-friendly establishment and we will be sure to visit again soon!
