Wonderful Holiday at Moramba Self Catering in Port Elizabeth

Last updated: Jan 25, 2018

Lucille recently enjoyed a relaxing holiday at Moramba Self Catering in PE with her family.

Moramba is a Marathi (Indian language spoken predominantly by the Marathi people of Maharashtra in India) word, which means jam and how appropriately named, as nothing can compare to the sweetness of this comfortable and stylish self-catering cottage, nestled in the beautiful green suburb of Walmer in Port Elizabeth.

The sheer excitement, utter joy and immense pleasure of visiting Port Elizabeth for the first time with my family was heightened by the amazing warm welcome and absolutely beautiful accommodation at Moramba Cottage. Our wonderful host Pieter, met us at the cottage on our arrival, greeted us with the friendliest smile the city could offer and promptly aided us in getting settled after a very, very long drive from Cape Town.

My attention was immediately drawn to the beautiful verdant green garden with what looked like cream soda lollipop trees (or so my daughter described them) and feeling like Alice in Wonderland, I took a walk down the little path to explore further, where I found a cozy braai area, which led out from the lovely, fully fitted, open plan kitchen for easy access.

Even the washing lines seemed delightfully mysterious, enclosed with lush green hedges.

It was a stunning summer evening and my family and I enjoyed a peaceful sundowner at the outside table.

The cottage also boasts a spacious air conditioned bedroom with a comfortable king sized bed that can be separated into twin single beds, ideal for those unexpected sleeping requirements. The bedroom also has a lovely freestanding full length mirror, ample cupboard space and had all we needed for a good night’s rest.

The open plan lounge/kitchen is fitted with a very comfortable easy to use sleeper couch and they also offer a full premium DSTV package and free wi-fi for the kids of course. Their welcome pack essentially contained details of everything we needed from wi-fi passwords to house rules, emergency numbers as well as contact numbers and menus of nearby restaurants, which are within walking distance from the cottage for those lazy cooking nights.

Moramba Cottage also features a lovely modern bathroom with a jet shower and we all laughed until our stomach’s hurt, when my husband had returned from the bathroom describing the unique experience he had with the shower that flowed sideways. Needless to say he had never before seen a jet shower. LOL

The secure undercover parking and remote access gave us absolute peace of mind and located only 2km from the airport and a stone’s throw from various shopping centres, Moramba Cottage is ideally situated. Various sports clubs, including a driving range for those getaway golf moments are also closely located.

We would not be at a coastal area for holiday without visiting the beach of course and the main beaches, including the renowned Boardwalk, are only approximately 10km away and I must mention that navigating through PE was one of the most pleasurable driving experiences I have ever had (For those wives who play navigator you know what I’m talking about – driving down a ramp onto a freeway in the wrong direction because the GPS is confused…) LOL

This was definitely a stay to remember. Pieter & Ester were absolutely wonderful, friendly and attentive hosts and made our stay very comfortable and relaxing. They also offer other modern 5-star self-catering units, ranging from a cozy fully fitted 2-sleeper cottage for those “just need a short get away” moments to a more spacious and stylish 6 sleeper unit.

The sweetness of Moramba will certainly linger with us and its 5-star accommodation is highly recommended.

Moramba Cottage has certainly made my families first visit to the Friendly City an experience that will live in our hearts forever!
