Waterberg Plateau

Otjiwarongo

The Waterberg Plateau is a 200 metre tall red, sandstone plateau, and provides beautiful views of the surrounding plains. Springs at the base of the mountains make the area rich in fauna including wild fig trees and coral trees. The plateau is 20 kilometres wide and 50 kilometres long and has an abundance of wildlife including leopard, buffalo and sable antelope. The Waterberg Plateau Lodge situated in the valley allows visitors to explore the beauty of this area.

The area was previously inhabited by the Herero people, but in 1904 German columnists defeated the Herero leaving very few survivors. A graveyard has been erected in honour of the dead.
