Oude Libertas

Stellenbosch

The beautiful Oude Libertas amphitheatre in the Stellenbosch winelands offers a variety of experiences, but is perhaps best known for its theatre and music concerts which take place on its open-air stage in the summer months.

Situated on the slopes of the Papegaaiberg and surrounded by vineyards and oak trees, the setting at Oude Libertas is spectacular. Visitors can enjoy the open-air amphitheatre, coffee, wine & tapas bar, art gallery, slow market on Saturdays, yoga classes, kiddie activities, special wine tastings, film screenings and picnics. The ambience and tranquility of this Greek style amphitheatre makes it one of the most beautiful open-air venues in South Africa.

Every summer the Amphitheatre stages a variety of productions across a wide range of genres. Over the past 35 years theatre lovers have enjoyed some of the best South African and international productions at this unique venue. Visitors are invited to bring along their picnic basket on Sundays during the season (November – March) and enjoy a glass of wine in the beautiful gardens that surround the theatre.

On Saturday mornings (09h00 – 14h00), the Slow Market is an authentic food market selling everything from artisan breads to cheeses, confectionary and preserves as well as beautiful handcrafted jewellery, clothing and more. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely breakfast and buy some treats to take home while relaxing in the beautiful setting.

For concerts, bookings are essential.
