The Circles in the Forest Hiking Trail (Kringe in ‘n Bos) is named after the book of the same title by acclaimed South African author Dalene Matthee. The circular trail starts at Krisjan-se-Nek and there is the option of an easy 3km route (+/- 1.5 hours), or a more strenuous 9km (+/- 3 hours) trail. The forest is filled with beautiful trees, huge forest ferns, streams and a forest pool for cooling off in. The dark colour of the water is from the tannins of the fallen forest leaves – and is perfectly safe for drinking.

At the Krisjan-se-Nek picnic site you can visit the Big Tree, an 800-900 year old Yellowwood, as well as Dalene Mattee’s memorial. Permits cost R22 per person and can be obtained at the entrance. Free for Wild Card holders.
