Dias Museum
Mossel BayLocated in Mossel Bay at the site where European explorers first made contact with the South African indigenous people is the Bartholomew Dias Museum. The museum offers a unique and fascinating insight into the area and the history of Portuguese, Dutch and British sailors.
The current museum complex was opened in 1989 and is home to a life-size replica of the Dias Caravel, the boat used by Dias to sail to Africa. Visitors to the museum can explore the boat and all its inner workings.
