Barberspan Bird Sanctuary

Southern Region

Located between Delareyville and Sannieshof, this 2000 ha area was declared as an important national birding site. It holds over 320 species of bird and is important for water fowl which moult here.

Birds found here include ostrich, crested grebe, pinkbacked pelican, reed comorant, grey heron, cattle egret, white stork, hadeda ibis, spur-winged goose, cape vulture, martial eagle, African fish eagle, jackal buzzard, black sparrow hawk, blue crane, red-crested korhaan, crowned plover, European cuckoo, and many more.

This area was declared a RAMSAR site according to the convention if 1971. Great activities to enjoy here include fishing and boating.
