Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve

The name Suikerbos (Sugar bush) comes from the Transvaal Suikerbos which is found here in abundance.

This 11595 ha reserve is only an hour drive away from Johannesburg, and is a wonderful destination for hiking, cycling and picnicking. There are a variety of hiking trails to suit everyone, and visitors can also choose to relax and enjoy a braai at one of the braai spots.

A wide range of wildlife can be found here including zebra, black wildebeest, red hartebeest and brown hyena. The reserve is also home to about 200 birds.

Trees that can be seen here include the white stinkwood, Highveld cabbage tree, ouhout, sweet thorn and common guarrie.

Admission: Adults R20.00, Children and Pensioners R10.00
