Bronkhorstspruit

Enjoy some 4 x 4 fun on a secluded farm bordering the Bronkhorstspruit Dam, which is only an hour away from the Johannesburg CBD.

The 4 x 4 Academy here offers advanced training in a controlled environment in order to teach you how to enjoy your 4 x 4 adventures safely and responsibly. There is a training track which features 12 different obstacles including sand, logs, see-saw, angles, side-tilt, rock bed and more. A few of the modules covered in the course include ground clearance and angles, eco-friendly driving, start/stall exercise, route planning and dangers, 3 point turns and more.

There is also a 8km off road 4 x 4 eco-trail which takes about 2 hours to complete. Great picnic spots along the trail as well as breath-taking views from the “koppies” add to the experience.

This area is home to the endangered African grassowl as well as to the Grey heron, Woodland kingfisher, African palm swift, Barn swallow, Rufous Lark, Cape glossy starling, Village weaver, Cape longclaw and many more wonderful bird species.

A number of stone circle ruins built by old African civilisations can be found here and are estimated at being between 2000 and 3000 years old. These circular ruins which can be found all over Southern Africa compromise the largest continuous stone settlements ever built on earth.

There are also many self-guided hiking trails to enjoy.
