Roodeplaat Dam Nature Reserve

Located approximately 22 km from Pretoria, the dam here was constructed in 1956 in order to supply local farmers with water and was originally named “Pienaars River Dam.”

This area was proclaimed a reserve in 1977 and is now a great destination for bird watching, fishing and canoeing. Other activities to enjoy include braaing and picnics. The area is also home to a variety of wildlife and you will mostly likely spot a few of the following: warthog, waterbuck, impala, blue wildebeest and black-backed jackals.
