Nelson Mandela BridgeBraamfontein
This bridge has gained iconic status and is located near to the city’s CBD. It has an impressive 248m span and is lit up in the colours of the rainbow at night. Built in 2003 at a cost of R38-million, this is the biggest cable-stayed bridge in Southern Africa. The bridge not only honours Nelson Mandela, but is also a symbol of his role in bridging the apartheid divide.
The bridge is a fantastic place to view the city – either by driving or taking a slow walk in the pedestrian or bicycle lanes.
