Stony Point Penguins

Betty's Bay

Just 90 kilometres from Cape Town in the Overberg region, one will find Betty’s Bay and the Stony Point Penguin Colony. The Stony Point colony is one of only three land-based colonies in South Africa and is home to over 150 nesting families of African penguins. The colony first began in 1982 when a breeding pair of penguins; presumably from Dryer Island, landed in the area and decided to stay. Visitors to the colony can view the penguins from a number of boardwalks.
