Otjiwarongo means 'Pleasant Place' or 'Place Where Fat Cattle Graze' and is an agricultural area with fertile soils and good pastureland. The area is also home to many popular private game farms. The area around Otjiwarongo is mountains with cone like structures rising out of the earth.
