Situated in the fertile Sundays River Valley, the Addo Region is home to the highly acclaimed Addo Elephant National Park as well as a number of private game reserves and exclusive bush lodges. The meandering Sundays River, the dense Addo bush and the surrounding Zuurberg Mountains allow for a range of outdoor activities from fishing and bird watching to hiking, horse-riding and 4x4 trails.
The Addo Region is known as the valley of Elephants & Roses – and is also a major citrus producing area. One of the greatest attractions of the area is the Addo Elephant National Park. Proclaimed in 1931 to protect the dwindling numbers of Addo Elephants, the herd has since swelled to over 400 elephant which now roam freely in the park.
The park offers a thrilling safari experience with all of the Big Five, as well as a variety of other wildlife, antelope and extensive birdlife to be found in the park. Guests may choose to stay in one of the many accommodation options available both in and around the park – many of which offer private game drives in open vehicles for an up-close-and-personal experience. The park is also open to day visitors and visitors may self-drive in their own vehicles.
