The historic town of Cradock with its fine architecture and well-preserved monuments was founded on the banks of the Great Fish River in the early 1800’s. Today the town centres on agriculture and the surrounding mountains and wide-open spaces attract outdoor enthusiasts.
The Great Fish River is home to one of the country’s biggest annual canoe marathons and the nearby Mountain Zebra National Park offers opportunities for walking, hiking and scenic drives in the beautiful wide open spaces.
In the town centre the Olive Schreiner Museum pays tribute to the acclaimed 19th century South African writer, best known for her novel The Story of an African Farm, who lived in Cradock for a number of years and was buried on the farm Buffelshoek just outside of town.
