With crystals streams, rolling hills and dense forests, Hogsback in the Eastern Cape falls into one of South Africa’s most beautiful areas. The surrounding Amatola Mountains offer invigoratingly fresh mountain air and abundant nature. The whole area has a slightly mysterious atmosphere surrounding it and is said to have been the inspiration for JRR Tolkien’s Milkwood Forest in the Lord of the Rings.
Hogsback is home to many artists and craftsmen and is also well known for its beautiful gardens which are open for visitors to see and enjoy. Relax as you go for a long walk through the beautiful scenery, or go trout fishing in one of the nearby streams.
