Situated in the Eastern Free State, and the closest town to Lesotho, Ficksburg was established as one of three strongholds during clashes between settlers and the local Basotho in the 1860’s. Today the town is best known for its cherry industry and a festival is held in November each year – in addition Ficksburg produces the country’s largest asparagus crop.
There are many outdoor activities to enjoy in the surrounding area including hiking and horse riding as well as trips to local rock art sites and into neighbouring Lesotho.
