Situated in the heart of the country's agricultural region, Goldfields was predominantly a farming community until a gold boom in 1948. A borehole sunk in search of water led to the discovery of deep-flowing gold ore and soon prospectors and international fortune seekers arrived in the Free State. The landscape surrounding the mining towns are a combination of rolling hills, golden farmlands, and constant blue sky.
