The town of Dundee is located in the heart of the Battlefields region of KwaZulu-Natal. The rolling hills and rocky outcrops of this region were witness to hundreds of bloody battles between the opposing forces of the Zulu, British and Voortrekkers - and today memorials, landmarks and battle sites scatter the landscape each with a different tale to tell.

The quaint town has a rustic appeal and it lies in the valley of the Biggarsberg Mountain range within close proximity to its neighbours of Ladysmith and Newcastle. The town itself is home to a few sites of historical interest - but the main reason for visiting would be to use the town as a base from which to explore the many sites and attractions of the Battlefields route. Numerous tours with experienced guides are on offer.
