Four kilometers south of Margate the coast changes as the modern buildings and apartments are replaced by iLala palms and secluded holiday venues. Cool evergreen forests, two sparkling lagoons and sub-tropical bush add to the up market, trendy yet relaxed environment of the town.
With 4 kilometers of pristine sandy beach, Southbroom boasts two shark protected swimming beaches that are linked to each other by a beautiful coastal walk. The Grassy banks next to the beach are equipped with braai facilities, and are a superb venue for an afternoon braai or picnic. Next to the beach there is a lagoon which is also popular for swimming as well as sailing and canoeing.
Southbroom has a few shops to purchase basics from, but the main shopping is found in Margate and Ramsgate. Roadside markets can also be useful for purchasing fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts. Visitors can also spend time watching whales and dolphins frolicking in the waves, play a round of golf or go fishing at a well known fishing spot called Black Rock.
