The town of St Lucia is located in the Elephant Coast region along the north-eastern coastline of KwaZulu-Natal. The town itself is mostly a base from which to explore the seemingly never-ending range of sights, attractions and activities on offer in the Great St Lucia Wetlands Park in which the town falls.
This incredible wilderness reserve is a World Heritage Site and encompasses 280 kilometers of coastline and some 328 000 hectares of spectacular scenery including swamps, mangroves, lakes, forests and dunes. Visitors to the area can expect to experience anything from scuba diving with the giant Manta Ray at Sodwana Bay to witnessing the birth of Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles in the Maputaland Marine Reserve.
The town of St Lucia is a popular base with anglers and is home to an assortment of bait and tackle shops as well as many seafood restaurants.
