The western side of this region is dominated by the Soutpansberg Mountain range after which the area is named. A large salt pan is located on the western slopes of these rocky mountains. On the other side of the mountain lies the Limpopo Valley with the Limpopo River providing water for the fertile soil of the lush bush. The river provides life to over 500 tree species, and a series of vhaVenda farming villages who make use the water and fertile ground for growing crops.
Offering great game viewing opportunities, the Soutpansberg is home to one of the largest concentrations of leopard in the world, with lion, cheetah, elephant and rhino also in the area.
