As the name suggests this region is situated in the valley of the great Olifants River. The region is known for its beautiful scenery and the fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities in the Kruger National Park or the private game reserves around the park.
The region differs from the rest of Limpopo with many spectacular views from the mountains overlooking rivers, dams, and the lush surrounds. The valley is relatively unspoilt with areas such as the Magoebaskloof Mountains offering long hikes with breath-taking views.
The Valley of the Olifants is also rich in history with the Modjadji Rain Queens having lived in the area. Visitors can go explore the cycad reserve that had specific importance to the Rain Queens, or visit the museum of Chief Makgoba, who fought the Boers Commandos in 1895.
