Set in sub-tropical surroundings in the Valley of the Oliphants region, Tzaneen is the second largest town in the Limpopo Province and supports a thriving farming community. Forested mountainsides, lush vegetation and a warm and balmy climate make for a picturesque setting and a popular destination.
Tzaneen is within an hours' drive of the Kruger National Park and other private game reserves as well as other interesting attractions such as cultural and archaeological sites and ancient cycads in the Modjadji Nature Reserve in the domain of the Modjadji Rain Queen. The Tzaneen Museum displays various items of pottery and beadwork as well as royal drums from the Rain Queen.
A number of dams and nature reserves within the area also provide opportunities for scenic drives and outdoor activities including hiking trails and bird watching; and along the way, stop off at one of the many tea-gardens, farm stalls or nurseries for refreshments and fresh produce.
