The scenic and winding Long Tom Pass is one of the most spectacular in the country and links the town of Sabie on the escarpment with Lydenburg on the Drakensberg plateau. The town was first established by the Voortrekkers in 1850 and developed further in the days of the goldrush, but today is a farming rich area – specifically in peaches.
The area surrounding Lydenburg is scenically beautiful and provides plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities including trout fishing in the surrounding rivers and dams. The town is one of the gateways to the majestic Panorama region, the Blyde River Canyon and onwards towards the wildlife and game reserves of the Kruger National Park.
